The Holiday Edit : FOOLPROOF XMAS GIFT IDEAS

Finding the perfect Christmas gift ain’t easy! In my case, actually passing those gifts on is the hard part. I have a slightly expensive habit of buying one for the intended recipient and one for me. It’s a win, win!

But if you’re a little out of your depth when it comes to Christmas shopping… here are 7 failsafe options this festive season.

  1. A DECENT CANDLE

Candles can set the mood and make a house smell amazing.

I’m a huge fan of Australian brand Glasshouse, especially the Tahaa Vanilla Caramel scent popular at Peter Alexander stores.

But newcomer, The Candle Establishment from South Australia has caught my attention too. It was responsible for the incredible smells at this year’s Adelaide Fashion Festival. My favourite is the Rose & Blackcurrant, which was used to create the fairytale atmosphere at Paolo Sebastian’s Disney inspired parade. The soy based candles are available in a range of sizes, so will suit most budgets, from $19.95 to $49.95.

2. EARRINGS

A new pair of statement earrings can make an outfit!

Tassel earrings are usually popular and there is a huge selection around. I love the stunning designs from Australian brand, The Label Eight. It often pairs sparkling jewels with tassels, and has a huge range of colours. I love mine in teal and pink! Prices start from $20.

Deux Earrings are another firm favourite. Its edgy, acrylic styles are reminiscent of the 80s. Prices range from $10 to $35. You can get 15% of all styles, except the Winter Bloom range, by using my code REPORTER15 at the check-out.

If you’re lucky enough to have a higher budget, Christie Nicolaides is the way to go. Her earrings are exquisite and feature a range of gemstones. Earrings prices start around $219.

3. LIP GLOSS

Nothing brings joy like the perfect lip gloss… not too shiny, not too sticky, but juuuust right!

For the festive season, it’s nice to add a pop of colour and the options are endless. I like a watermelon red for Christmas.

My favourite gloss is the Dior Addict Ultra Gloss which retails around $49. But I have found the perfect hack if your budget’s a little tighter. The Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer also comes in an array of colours and glistens without being too sticky. It retails for half the price, around $24.95. Keep an eye out for sales at your fave Pharmacy where you can sometimes pick these up for less than $20.

4. SCARF

Whether it’s worn around the neck, on the head or as a top, you can’t go wrong by surprising someone with a beautiful scarf!  A splash of colour or a vibrant pattern can completely change the look of an outfit, without having to cost a fortune.

For a new scarf on a budget, Forever New has great options and prices range between $20 and $35.

Seed Heritage is a go to for scarves and it’s also reasonably priced. You can pick up some gorgeous colours and patterns for  between $25 and $39.95.

And of course if you’re splashing out on your loved one, you can’t go past Camilla. Its exquisite, signature scarves will set you back around $249.

5. HAND CREAM

In an era when everyone is seeking eternal youth, hand health is extremely important. Along with your neck, your hands are a direct giveaway about your age. So a decent hand cream is crucial! And they smell a treat!

For a light, easy-wear option, I like the MOR travel sized hand cream in lychee flower. It’s around $12.95.

At the higher-end of the scale, you can’t go wrong with Jurlique. It’s nourishing, long-lasting, and incorporates a range of botanicals. A travel size, 40ml will set you back around $29.

6. NEOPRENE BAG

Neoprene… previously reserved for wetsuits, it’s now being embraced by bag lovers. The material is light weight, washable and durable.

There are plenty on the market and prices vary greatly.

Urban Originals styles are different from the popular perforated look, come in a range of colours and are generally priced under $90.

Personally, I love my Watermelon perforated Neoprene tote from Willow Bay Australia for work or play. Its totes start around $129 and come in a range of colours and styles.

However, at the top of the range State of Escape was one of the first brands to enter the Australian market. Its totes start from $299 to as high as $365, but the quality is second to none.

7. TIFF MANUELL CLUTCH

Nothing says I love you, like a one-off piece of wearable art. That’s exactly what Adelaide designer Tiff Manuell has to offer. Her stunning, hand-made clutches come in a range of sizes and prices, starting from $100. The acrylic cover, makes the bag durable too, simply wipe it clean.

You can pick which strokes and colours best suit the personality of your loved one. And because each bag is made up of a different part of the canvas, it’s completely unique.

A Merry Christmas indeed!
